Intel CEO commits to building new GPUs and has hired the engineer who designed some of AMD’s greatest graphics card hits to design them

So, Intel decided it’s not done with the GPU embarrassment Olympics. Did you see this coming? Because after the Arc launch drama, most sane people probably assumed Intel would throw in the towel, not throw more cash at graphics. But here we are. Pat Gelsinger, the CEO who talks a big AI game at every event, just announced that Intel is going all in—with new GPUs and, get this, the guy who engineered some of AMD’s all-time greats (yes, really).

These aren’t just any chips—they’re bringing on a wizard who worked on Radeon icons. The plan? Apparently, build next-gen GPUs (but honestly, don’t get excited for gaming). Everything’s about AI these days. The specs or codenames are under wraps, but expect heavy focus on acceleration for machine learning, maybe a drip-feed to gaming if we complain loud enough. Intel loves hyping architectures—remember Arc ‘Alchemist’ and how much fun that was?

Is it a pure win? Hardly. Sure, poaching top talent from AMD looks bold, but does Intel even have the patience to play this game? (Let’s not forget their last effort barely made a dent in Nvidia’s or AMD’s markets.) And every time someone mutters ‘AI GPU’, it usually means, ‘Sorry, gamers, you’re not the priority.’

Realistically, who’s going to care? If you’re building a server farm to analyze cat memes with deep learning, this is for you. If you’re a gamer hoping for a third graphics giant, get comfy—this road’s longer than a Dubai summer. Most folks will keep buying what works, unless Intel seriously undercuts on price (don’t bet your PC fund on that yet).

For the UAE crowd, it’s another wait-and-see. Don’t expect these to hit your favorite shop quick, and don’t expect a bargain at Carrefour or Datcart your first try. But it’s fun to see the giants fighting—let’s just hope Intel’s new plan doesn’t go the way of the floppy disk.
